This week has been fast paced with visits to Craven Pamlico and Carteret Counties. The week started with meetings in New Bern to discuss marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point and the importance of the facility to our region. The facility produces a direct economic impact of 2 billion dollars per year to our communities and more than 53,000 people are directly impacted as active and retired military, military families as well as active and retired civilian workers. This is a major economic generator for our district and the more we understand about the process of base realignment the more prepared we will be to ensure MCAS Cherry point remains strong.

Wednesday I spent in Pamlico County visiting with community leaders, Sherrill Styron and Angie Propst. I met a lot of people in the community and saw how many are still hurting from the damage done by last year’s hurricane. I understand how these people are hurting and the affect the ferry tax will have on working class people. Later that night I was able to participate in the Pamlico County GOP meet the candidate night and enjoyed visiting with more than 50 GOP supporters. Thanks to Judy Hardison and Angie for making the day so successful.

Yesterday I visited eastern Carteret County with stops in Beaufort, Davis, Stacy, Sea Level, Atlantic and Otway. Everyone I spoke with made it clear that our community needs a strong leader and are willing to support my efforts! We have to work to create jobs and reduce regulations so small businesses can thrive. Next Friday march 30th we will be hosting a fish fry in Davis starting at 6 PM. Please come and see us if you have the opportunity.
